Joy Elizabeth Williams (nacida el 14 de noviembre de 1982) es una cantante y compositora estadounidense. Ganadora de cuatro premios Grammy , Williams ha lanzado cuatro álbumes en solitario y cuatro EP desde su debut homónimo en 2001. Fue la mitad del dúo Civil Wars desde 2009 hasta 2014.
Williams nació en West Branch, Michigan , y se crió en un hogar cristiano en Mount Hermon, en el condado de Santa Cruz, California , donde sus padres trabajaban en el ministerio. Asistió a Valley Christian High School en San José y se graduó como la mejor maestra de estudios en 2001.
Además de cantar en la iglesia, Williams comenzó a escribir canciones pop basadas en la fe mientras vivía en Santa Cruz. A los 17 años, fue firmada por Reunion Records , una subsidiaria de Sony / BMG con sede en Brentwood, Tennessee .
