Sinéad Marie Bernadette O'Connor es una cantante nacida en Dublín, Irlanda, el 8 de diciembre de 1966. Se hizo famosa por su calidad como artista y por sus polémicas declaraciones y extravagancias en el escenario. Es ganadora de un premio Grammy.
Dio sus primeros pasos en el mundo de la música en el grupo Tom Tom Macute hacia 1985 y, tras una breve estancia en dicha banda, decidió marcharse a Londres.
En la capital británica conoció a dos ilustres paisanos, los U2 Bono y The Edge, con quienes colaboraría en la composición de la banda sonora de la película Captive. Después de esta experiencia y de colaborar en estudio con otros artistas, en 1987 tuvo la oportunidad de grabar su primer álbum para la discográfica Chrysalis, The Lion And The Cobra, que rápidamente se convirtió en un éxito y consiguió una nominación para los premios Grammy.
Aquel primer disco era puro pop; la particular voz de Sinead alcanzaba altos registros, pero fue considerado por algunos como demasiado comercial. De cualquier forma, la espectacular gira que emprendió le ocupó hasta 1989, año en el que graba su siguiente álbum, I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got, editado en 1990. Dicho disco contenía el que sería el mayor logro de su carrera, Nothing Compares 2 U, canción compuesta por el genio de Minneapolis, Prince. La canción llegó al número uno en medio mundo, y le valió a la cantante irlandesa fama internacional y nuevas nominaciones para los premios Grammy.
